Writing
A sample of things that I've written. Unless stated otherwise, these are available on my personal blog.
Approach differences with an open mind
Everyone has opinions, and those opinions are bound to differ. We should learn to listen to others with an open mind rather than shut them out. This opinion piece ran in Scroll. Click here for the full story.
On the Monarch of the Sea
This is a project I did for my Advanced Media Writing class. One day, I went out to the graveyard in Rexburg and picked a random tombstone. I then had to find as much as I could about that person and his life and write about something that happened to him with as much detail as possible.
Political Correctness is Socially IncorrectThere are words that should be avoided, whether they be racial slurs, sexist remarks, or any other king of language that is inherently offensive. Then, there are words that just cause controversy among the hypersensitive. Some New York school want to ban the second kind.

Judge the whole, not its extremes
People have ups and downs, and judging them based on one extreme will give us an inaccurate opinion of who they are. We should look at people as a whole before passing judgment. This opinion piece ran in Scroll. Clieck here for the full story.
Woodland Kennel's Samoyed still winning dog show awards
You can't teach an old dog new tricks, but you can help him take first place in a dog show. Meet Riley, an 11-year-old Samoyed that still has what it takes. This story was published in the print and online versions of The Reflector, a weekly newspaper based in Battleground, Washington.
The Past in the Present
This is a magazine article I wrote for my Advanced Media Writing class. It takes a look at Patricia Fielding of Idaho Falls, who runs a hand-made soap company out of her basement, and how she created a successful business out of a product most people buy from large companies.
